This was paid for with the money received from the Sunderland Trip. Thanks to everyone who supported this trip. Heart of Hawick Book Awards 2010 - Author Visit At Hawick High School on 20th January there was an author visit as part of the Heart of Hawick book awards. Her name was Cathy MacPhail and she talked about her books which were children's books. She really liked thriller stories and she really liked blood. It was great fun, we learnt how she wrote her novels and we thank her for the amazing stories.
Her books are... Grass, Fighting back, Fugitive, Picking on Percy, Bad Company, Run Zan Run, Missing, Dark Waters, Another Me, Underworld, Into the shadows, Sinister Intent. Clashing Clothes We will be having a special ‘clashing clothes’ day on Friday 22nd January. Pupils & staff are asked to make a donation to dress down in clashing clothes. All proceeds raised will be donated to the emergency fund to help those people hurt in the recent Haiti Earthquake. Burns Day Lunch On Tuesday the 26th of January we will
be having a Burns lunch. The lunch will be accompanied by fun activities and is
the normal school lunch price of £1.65. Lentil soup & corned beef sandwich Or Haggis, Neeps & Tatties Or Steak Pie, Carrots & Tatties ** Trifle Fruit Or Yoghurt Cinema Visits “FANTASTIC MR FOX”Two end of term outings to the Heart of Hawick Cinema have been organised to take place on Friday 11th December for P5, P5/6 and P6 classes and on Monday 14th December for both P7 classes. There will be no charge to the children as our Parent Council has very kindly offered to fund this outing. The children will leave school at 12.45 p.m. and will walk down to the cinema accompanied by school staff and parent helpers. (MS Word) Sing a Song for Christmas The Hawick Primary Schools will be taking part in the annual ‘Sing a Song for Christmas’ in Teviot Church, Hawick on Thursday 3rd December 2009. The school choir will represent Drumlanrig Primary. They will be accompanied by various members of staff. Parents are also invited along to enjoy this lovely Christmas evening. Pupils should meet at the church at 6.45p.m., wearing full school uniform. The evening will start at 7.00 p.m. and will last for approximately one hour. Sunderland Trip We have again been offered discounted tickets by Sunderland football Club for their upcoming Premiership game against Portsmouth. The match is on 12th December at the Stadium of Light. Tickets cost £10 each. Pupils MUST be accompanied by an adult. Applications for tickets must be made to the school by the end of November. We will also be running a bus to the match. Bus places will cost £6.50 per person. Please contact Mr Hunter or the school office for further details.
On Wednesday the 28th of October Hawick Fire brigade came to talk to us all about safety on Bonfire Night. They came in the morning and had to rush away on a SHOUT but they came back in the afternoon. They showed us some video clips of people building fires, using fireworks and sparklers. We also learned what to do if you catch fire…..STOP-DROP-ROLL…… Thank you to the Fire Brigade for taking time to come and speak to us …And we wish everyone a happy and safe Bonfire night.
Lotte Mullan, a famous singer, came and talked about her job of being a singer on the 8th October 2009. Her life sounds amazing but she said it’s sometimes hard and nervous, “Getting on stage with thousands of fans might sound scary to some of you but others of you are very confident.” Lotte sang three songs one of them was “I’m alright with me.” She also plays guitar, and she’s very good at that too. I think she’s from London. She’s amazing I’m a fan

new Head girl and boy respectively. They won after votes by the P7 pupils and
all the staff at the school. We are sure that they will be great representatives
for the school. There are no deputes this year as a new 'House' system has been set up. The new houses are Borthwick, Cavers, Dean and Teviot. Congratulations to our new 'House Captains' who were elected by P5-7 pupils and staff after making speeches. Sports Trophies We would like to thank Mr K McAllan for his kind donation of two new sports trophies to the school. These will be presented at future prise giving's to the boy and girl sports champions. Badges We would like to thank Mrs Whillans school administrator for organising the embroidery of the school badges to our Kits for Kids football kits. These were done by Ian Whillans at Needle Street Embroidery and of an excellent quality. Tesco Vouchers Thanks to everyone who handed in tesco vouchers to the school. We received more vouchers then ever before and were able to purchase a digital voice recorder and some podcasting software. Tour of Britain Cycling On the 14th of September 2009, we went down to Slitrig crescent to watch the Tour of Britain Cyclists on their cycle from Peebles to Gretna. The Borders Cycling Development Officer came to tell us about the race on Friday and were all very excited. The Cyclists, including Bradley Wiggins flashed past us very quickly.
