We are half way through the year and pupils and staff have been very
busy. We
had our Christmas concerts before the holidays and they were a great success.
The singing was of an exceptionally high standard and thanks must go to our
music teacher, Mrs McLellan, for getting the very best out of the children. The
staff worked together to prepare the children and ensure everything ran smoothly
back stage. The concerts provided an excellent vehicle to develop the 4
capacities in the children. As a result we now have children who are more
confident, effective contributors, responsible school citizens and of course
they had a lot to learn to be able to put on such fantastic performances!
This term got off to a cold and snowy start. Normal routines have been disrupted
because of the snow and we are still feeling the effects of that now. Everyone
is working hard and we are observing very good teaching and learning taking
place in our classrooms. The children are enjoying their topic work which
includes World War 2, The Vikings and Castles. I am looking forward to the
Banquet which will take place to round of the P2 Castles topic!!
We have many clubs on offer for the children and have indeed increased the
number of clubs we run, to offer more opportunities at the lower end of the
school. The children really enjoy these after school activities and are very
appreciative of the time staff give to widen the experiences available to the
children. Look out for the Achievements Bulletin which provides information
about What's on at Drumlanrig School.
I would like to say a special thank you to our Pupil Council. They regularly
meet during their break time in order to share information and plan new events.
Their idea to raise money for the Haiti appeal saw them sending £602 to this
needy cause. Miss McGregor keeps the children on their toes and has them
preparing for something different each term. They have a House Quiz planned
called 'Who Wants to Win a 100 House Points?' It is based on Who Wants to be a
Millionaire with staff agreeing to be the children's phone a friends!
The Eco Committee and working towards the Silver Award. They meet every second
week at lunch time. We have not been able to recruit a parent on the group so if
this is something you are interested in then please get in touch. You don't have
to be a parent, we would love to welcome grandparents or members of the local
community.
You should be able to get a lot of information from our website about what is
happening at Drumlanrig school but you are always welcome to get in touch if you
want more information or would like to get involved with different activities in
the school.
